Having a baby is one of the most rewarding and yet often challenging times for new mums.
The physical changes that happen to a woman’s body during pregnancy and child birth are in amazing, and yet these changes may also take their toll.
Some women will sail through pregnancy and childbirth without any issues only to find that when they return to exercise, or later hit their menopause years, the problems start to arise. Others will have issues that are more immediately obvious.
Post natal physiotherapy is focused on the physical problems women may encounter after having a baby.
Here are some common issues that may benefit from post-natal physiotherapy treatment:
- Diastasis Recti / Abdominal weakness
- C-section recovery
- Pelvic floor weakness
- Urinary or fecal Incontinence
- Urinary or fecal Urgency
- Pelvic Organ Prolapse
- Pelvic Girdle Pain
- Neck, shoulder or low back pain
- Pain with Sexual intercourse
In some counties all women who give birth are given post-natal pelvic floor and abdominal rehab sessions as a matter of course! We think this is brilliant as we strongly believe that all new mums deserve the care and attention they need to recover from pregnancy and childbirth.
A post-natal physiotherapy check-up can address any issues that may have arisen, as well assessing for pelvic floor dysfunction and Diastsis Recti, which may include guiding new mums on safe and appropriate return to exercise.
